Twisted S Longhorns
Like many in the longhorn community, we initially bought four longhorns, seeing them more as beautiful additions to our pasture than anything else. That small number soon expanded. We crossed paths with Nancy Dunn at Southeast Stock Horse events, sparking Ann’s fascination with longhorns. She even started following Nancy on social media, knowing that she’d eventually own some longhorns herself.
In 2008, we moved to Alabama from Houston, Texas due to Clay’s work commitments. Having longhorns has helped us keep a slice of Texas alive in our new home.
Luckily, we’re fortunate to be in close proximity to some of the country’s leading longhorn breeders, who sold us our first cows and have generously mentored us. We’ve rapidly grasped the essentials for cultivating a top-notch herd. Our goal is to raise well-rounded cows that have proper conformation, innate mothering skills, vivid colors, a gentle/calm disposition, and of course, long horns.
We dipped our toes into the world of longhorn futurities in 2022, traveling to various events and meeting incredibly helpful and friendly people in the community. This experience has been invaluable in arming us with the knowledge we need to succeed as new breeders.
We are also feeding out steers and selling longhorn beef. We butchered our first steer in 2023 and were pleasantly surprised at how delicious it is. It’s not only delicious but healthy as well.
We would love to meet and talk all things longhorns if you are ever in the vicinity of southeast Alabama.
